Retinavites™ Supplements
Retinavites™ antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplements are designed to help people suffering from age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the primary cause of significant vision loss in people aged 60 and older. Retinavites supplements contain ingredients that have been shown to slow the progression of AMD.
In a randomized trial conducted by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health from 1992 to 2001, approximately one-fifth of patients with intermediate and advanced AMD were able to reduce their risk of vision loss after taking high levels of antioxidant vitamins and minerals, which Retinavites supplements contain. The supplements are available in three formulas: original, for smokers; regular, for nonsmokers; and the newer Retinavites II, appropriate for both.
Retinavites II was formulated based on the results of a follow-up randomized trial by the National Eye Institute that took place from 2006 to 2013. Retinavites II's formula differs from the original and regular formulas in that it contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which are carotenoids that do not increase the risk of lung cancer. It also has a lower level of zinc, which, in the second trial, was shown to be as effective as the higher level in slowing down the progression of AMD.
Although taking Retinavites supplements may slow the progression of AMD, neither they nor any other antioxidant vitamin-and-mineral formula can cure or reverse its effects.
